Description:
This level is for those persons planning to raise their academic level up to and beyond a Grade 12 equivalency, with a view to starting in the College's University Transfer Program or attending a university or technical institute. The program provides approximate equivalency to Grade 12 in the areas of Mathematics, English and Science. (Note: North Island College does not require a Grade 12 diploma in order for a person to register for university transfer courses. Prerequisites for courses or programs are course specific: e.g. English 12. or Math 12.)

This program, together with the preceding levels, provides adults with an alternative college route to the equivalent of Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation (Dogwood) Diploma programs administered by high school.

The requirements for the Provincial Certificate are demonstrated mastery of mathematics at the Advanced Level (completion of MAT 051 and 052) and completion of four courses as follows:

ENG 060 Introduction to Canadian Literature
plus, a maximum of 3, a minimum of 1 subject from List 2.

CHE 060 College Preparatory Chemistry II
GEO 060 Physical and Human Geography
HIS 060 Twentieth Century History
MAT 066 College Algebra IIA
MAT 067 College Algebra IIB
PHY 060 College Preparatory Physics II
Plus a maximum of 2 from List 3

BOA 171 Introduction to Legal Office Procedures
and one of:
BOA 172 Litigation
BOA 174 Conveyancing
BOA 182 Medical Terminology I
BOA 183 Medical Terminology II
BIP 101 Keyboarding Applications II
BIP 105 Dicta-Typing
and:
BOA 185 Medical Transcription

Other courses offered by the College may be approved as List 3 options in the future.

Media and methods employed: Printed text, tutorial support.
Some courses may require students to travel to a Regional Campus to complete the lab or hands-on requirements of the course.

Administrative information:
Students can enrol in this program at any time and work at their own pace for their own convenience.

Upon successful completion of the requirements, students are awarded the ABE Provincial Diploma of Adult Secondary Graduation by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Job Training in conjunction with the College.
